Let's Talk Trading (tm) with Ken Roberts
from June 8, 2004
Return to archives page
As we begin this evening’s session, let me state the reason I conduct these
monthly chats: to provide you the opportunity to ask questions and pick the
brain of a successful, long-time, real-money trader. It’s not the highest and
best use of our limited time here together for me to define basic terms and
explain introductory principles taught in your Course materials. That’s what my
Course Counselors are here for... Now is the time for you to use me to help
you apply the basics you’re learning and to prepare you for what to expect
once you’re out in the market itself (either paper trading or with real money).
And if we have some fun along those lines, so much better. Alright...
I’ve got a (classic) Davidoff Cuban fired up, here’s our plate of freshly baked peanut butter cookies, the coffee’s poured, so let’s talk commodities!
NOTE!!! When commenting on one of my Courses, please identify WHICH ONE. Also, when relating trading experiences and/or results, please give details: Futures contracts, options, options AND futures, etc. This helps others follow along and learn from your experience too.
machotrader asks:
Redondo Beach, CA: Ken...July crude oil closed below the Dynamic Trend Change Point today.
Does that mean you will be getting short crude tomorrow or are you waiting for "moderate
to strong"? Thanks Ken.
at 6:15:42 PM
Hi machoatrader. A market hitting the DTCP can be an EXIT strategy. And then, waiting for a "moderate-to-strong" Short-Term Rankings signal can also be an ENTRY strategy. It all depends upon YOUR particular strategy. No, I won't automatically be reversing my Crude Oil position only on the DTCP getting hit. Hope this helps. Thanks!
Capt. Ric asks:
I am excited! What are the new tools...Please do TELL!!!
at 6:17:48 PM
Have you gone to our TWO new websites:
www.kenroberts.com and www.uschartco.com?
Check 'em out!
MetalMan asks:
Hi Ken, Thank you for intoducing me to commodites in 1997, its been a love affair ever since!
at 6:18:37 PM
You sound like me, MetalMan! Glad you've been aboard all these exciting years (and doesn't it just keep getting better and better?) . . . .
Rodney asks:
I have studied the options approach you suggest in The Great American Business where you promote the contrarian approach to purchasing options. TOVI appears to be a different approach and departs from the contrarian. What is the best method of converting to the TOVI approach from the contrarian approach? Thanks, Ken
at 6:21:38 PM
Hi Rodney, great observations and questions.
Start with TOVI's four trading strategies and paper trade each one to see how they "fit" your style and temperament.
Here's a fine point to realize about TOVI: TOVI does NOT tell you to do anything. So it's not accurate to say that TOVI is not contrarian. In fact, let me ask everyone with us tonight if you use any contrarian strategies in conjunction with TOVI's tools.
I'll let you know what comes in this evening.
Thanks!
catherine knepp asks:
I would like to purchase charts on line and start paper trading, do you have a new course?
at 6:22:11 PM
Yes I do, catherine. Just log onto www.kenroberts.com and get started! Welcome aboard.
chris asks:
Ken, I am really excited about your new trading tools as mentioned in a recent email, will you be discussing that subject tonight?
at 6:23:25 PM
Absolutely! (How do you like the new Ken's Chart Book?)
TedfromIowa asks:
Hey Ken...last week during the TOVI chat you said that US Charts Online was better than paper charts. Why is that? If I switch to US Charts Online, I'm really gonna miss the smell of those brand new paper charts every week, and I'm gonna miss using my red pen to mark them all up. I'll have to throw away my sticky notes too! :-)
at 6:25:12 PM
I'm with you, TedfromIowa, but do consider this: As those online charts are updated, isn't it GREAT that you don't have to transfer all that red writing and those post-it notes to a new chartbook?! I may be a dinosaur, but now call me COMPUTER-MAN!
paul asks:
Eight inches of rain fell in the state of Michigan recently. Its the most since may 1943. This could be an opportunity in corn and soybeans etc. What month would you recommend to trade?
at 6:26:31 PM
Based on those fundamentals, paul, NONE! But based on charting (technical analysis) begin with the "Active Futures Month" listed on TOVI. Stay dry!
Stretch asks:
Good evening Ken and crew, Stretch here from sunny Swan Hills Alberta. I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do for us, especially TOVI. WOW! What a tool. Now I am sure I can make it in this market. I am late subscribing to TOVI, but I am quickly catching up. I was reading the April Tovi chat, and that must have been an awfully strong wind you had in Grants Pass. I found your size 12 hat bouncing along the ditch. I will bring it with me along with your box of cigars when I come to G.P. Thanks Ken.
at 6:27:42 PM
That's where my hat ended up . . . . Thanks Stretch! Come on out to Oregon!
Eric in Fort Worth asks:
Good evening, Ken. Your updated website is very good. Is the TWMPMM course still available in its original form, or has it been upgraded/replaced by the Traders Guide advertised on the website? Also, how much does it cost to be a WGB member?
at 6:30:03 PM
$1 Eric! Go to www.kenroberts.com and sign up from the Tour. No, Eric, you'll have to find an old TWMPMM Course at Sotheby's or Butterfield's!
TERRY asks:
Ken, this is the first chance I have had to thank you for the cookies and cigar you left for me and my wife when we were in grants pass on our vaction last year. Thanks for TOVI and all your hard work. Coffee, sugar, OJ, ETC, ETC,HAVE BEEN and are very very good to us. Should be out your way later this year, again!
at 6:33:17 PM
You're welcome Terry! Yes, come on out again (and don't miss that turnaround in OJ . . . .)
chris asks:
Well, I guess my question has been answered. Thanks, Ken, been making money in the markets and would never have started without you!
at 6:33:32 PM
Thanks Chris!
treepartner asks:
Hi, Ken and all, Treepartner here. Looking forward to 'Nawlins and catching up on everything. Thanks for all you do for all of us.
at 6:34:46 PM
Thank YOU, treepartner! N'awlins is getting closer and closer (and those debris sandwiches and benquets!) . . . .
DM HydroPower asks:
Ken and Company! How the heck are we tonight? Me, well I'm tickled pink! My Soybean puts are in the money (waiting for the 50%), my coffee call is in the money (and hopefully big in the next 4 months), I got a new job offer today, and I'm on this chat! WOW! Now I have a question for you! Talking to my broker the other day, and I indicated that I wanted to place a "stop-loss like order" on a current option I have. I asked if it dropped to a certain point value could I just have him liquidate it through a pre-determined point value, but I was told no, that I can only 1) Liquidate it at market when the time comes 2) or liquidate at a said price or better, which is currently above my options current value. I don't understand why I can't have him execute an order if it drops in value?
at 6:37:26 PM
YOU'RE right, DM HydroPower. Your broker should be willing to WORK for his or her commission, but it sounds like yours isn't stepping up to do so. I'd have a little talk with him . . . .
topaz asks:
topaz, been studying for quite some time and ready to start trading TOVI. we're excited
at 6:37:55 PM
We are too, topaz! Glad you're on board.
tradeboy asks:
Hi, Ken tradeboy here. With the eurodollar moving a little like it has, do you think that the probable interest rate hike has already been factored into it? Like metalman, I've been in since 1997 and loving every minute!!!
at 6:39:13 PM
It's tempting to think that, tradeboy, but if we do we're stepping into fundamentalland (and that's a dangerous place for me to go). Watch those charts (and watch where you step)!
There may be some confusion as to the two new websites (www.kenroberts.com and www.uschartco.com):
Log on at www.kenroberts.com and click the CLICK HERE button in the bottom right corner (bottom of the World's Greatest Business box) and take the tour. That will lead you into U.S. CHARTS On-Line too.
Have fun!
stevie boy asks:
Ken. I have been checking out the new tools. THEY ARE GREAT!! I traded for a while and then had to stop because of circumstances. But I am back with a vengeance now. Been paper trading and making money, so getting close to going with real money again. The new tools are a tremendous help. I know you hear it a lot, but I gotta say thanks for plotting the course and direction and then letting us take it from there.
at 6:44:02 PM
So . . . that makes me The Captain?! You mean like Captain Kenny? I like that . . . . Thanks!
savedone asks:
Hello Ken. Were all anxious to hear about the new trading tools to be unveiled tonight. I do have a question. Assuming your in a long position, if a profit point you've been waiting for is hit (We'll call it 7.50), do you immediately get out at that price, or would you put a stop a few points away (7.40-7.49), in case it keeps going in higher? Can you tell me which has been more beneficial over the years. Thanks Ken.
at 6:47:09 PM
Good question, savedone. Let me make two remarks about the situation you raise:
1) Yes, when my target's hit, I still would like to collect more profits if there's more momentum left in that trade, so I'll trail a CLOSE silent stop behind.
2) Your situation also brings up the reason I like to trade MULTIPLE options and/or contracts: When a target is hit, I'll cash in half (usually) of my positions and let the remaining ride for further price movement.
Thanks!
paul asks:
Hi ken. I became a coarse member in 1997. I was successful in papertrading and have just now used real money. Also I have been watching corn and orange juice. What are your thoughts on these two commodities? -Paul
at 6:47:58 PM
I love them both, paul, but I love Orange Juice more! Thanks for joining us this evening.
Trader Jim asks:
Trader Jim Roseburg Oregon; Ken it looks like July Cocoa has made a head and shoulders bottom what do you think
at 6:49:40 PM
I see a 1-2-3 bottom formation in the works (which is HALF a head-and-shoulders formation). How are things in Roseburg?
porteno1 asks:
Hi Ken I love what I see in the new web site Thanks so much for your wisdom and effort!!!!!!!It certenly been a love affair Please tell me about how the new course compares to GAB?
at 6:51:59 PM
The World's Greatest Business is the next evolution of GAB. It teaches how to trade the age-old adage "The Trend Is Your Friend."
Check out my brand new Trading Manual at www.kenroberts.com.
Thanks!
hoss asks:
Ken, I notice you normally get into your options at less than $500. The best values are typically at much highter costs. Can you give us a little insight for limiting our option costs per option?
at 6:54:38 PM
Sure, hoss, TOVI provides THREE ways to search for the right option(s) for you:
1) Budgeted Options Search
2) Maximum Premium Search
3) Value Factor Search (which I believe is the one you're referring to.)
So give 1) and 2) a try and see the results.
Thanks.
thelineman asks:
thelineman from tallahassee,fla.. hi ken and crew is it possible that you new tools are exciting as a $200.00 put in euoryen with a value factor of 4.026
at 6:56:14 PM
Yes, sir, thelineman! Isn't that something: We found that Euroyen put at last month's Chat and it had Open Interest of 50 or 55. Now look at its Open Interest today . . . . Yes, pretty exciting! Glad you're with us.
paul asks:
Please bring me up to speed on what TOVI is and what do you recommand on further improving my trading skills?
at 6:58:03 PM
TOVI is the "Trading Template" everyone's been asking me for for the past 20 years! Take the TOVI Tour at www.tovitour.com where I'll lead you through all its high points. Then paper trade TOVI's four strategies to get a feel for using this powerful new trading tool. You'll love it!
mattituck mike asks:
ken, any plans for TOVI workshop/seminar on the east coast in the near future?
at 6:58:46 PM
We're very close to announcing that, mattituck mike. Stay tuned . . . .
coyote asks:
Ken, I have been watching the Nasdag 100 jumping up then down. I was interested and excited about how fast in time and money, this market moves. Being new to trading options, I called my broker to ask about this particular market. They told me that this market is very volitale and it is hard to get in or get out . What is your experience trading options in this market? I have been paper trading this market for short term and I`m kicking myself for not buying a put option!
at 7:03:31 PM
The Nasdaq can be characterized as a more volatile market than many others, coyote, but I don't want to disuade you from looking at and considering it. Yes, options may tend to be more expensive in the Nasdaq (compared to Oats, for example), but bargains DO exist and that's what TOVI's for. I just did a Value Factor Search and the top-rated Nasdaq call is $8,605 (with $2,700 intrinsic value), but I also see Nasdaq call options listed for $2,900, $2,000, and even $1,000. That is kind of rich, but paper trade it and see if you find that this added risk and cost is worth it. Great question. Thanks!
New York Trader Paul asks:
Hey Ken! It has been a while, I have time tonight to tune into the chat room.I just cashed out three 720 Aug. puts options up $2,000.00 invested $1,000 for five puts, three in Aug. and two still working for Sept. at 620, looking for 4 to 5,000 profit on a $1,000 investment!
I also talked to a course member who started your course eight years ago. This is a true story because a friend of mine used to work for the bank this course member had his accounts, any way he stated with $5,000.00 and in eight years rolled it into 3 MILLION!!!! All by doing your course! Hey I am building my account up to reach his goal and more. Thanks Ken for your courses.
at 7:06:14 PM
Right, New York Trader Paul, why limit yourself to his measly results . . . !
Trips22 asks:
Ken,
I have been course member for four years, I did believe in Long Term Position Trading. Since trading with TOVI in last four months, with Futures contract, I have had problem trying to find a strategy that will work consistenly. I used to stay for years in a market . I lost some money trading options. I had one successful trade in Rice market. Now following TOVI it seems I am not able to profit consistently. Trying to balance the Long Term and Short term Trading strategy has been difficult. Any help will be appreciated. Can one be successful trading futures using short term TOVI ranking alone? Or do I have figure out a mix of the two approaches. Discouraged at the moment,Thanks.
at 7:11:00 PM
Thank YOU, Trips22. It's okay to be discouraged (we all go through it at times), but you're absolutely right to hang in there --- that's the ONLY way to triumph.
Take what you previously found to be successful and see how TOVI can supplement, compliment, and enhance that previous successful plan.
Yes, I do know people can be and are successful trading futures using TOVI's Short-Term Rankings alone. (Hint: Anyone online tonight care to share YOUR experiences with this?)
Are you paper trading TOVI's four strategies? I believe doing so will shed light on your questions (and discouragement cannot live where there's light!) . . . .
TOVIjunkie asks:
Hi Ken and crew,Love the new look of us charts on line and the new tools. Since joining TOVI and charts on line my paper trading success has more than doubled!!I am starting to real trade and have two questions tonight. 1,on the trade tracker p/l column, is the amount shown after all costs,ie.commissions,& initial costs to enter trade? 2,can you give a little insight on internal financing. I use profits from existing open trades to fund new trades in my paper trading. Is this the correct way? If so I would think that the risk is greatly increased, yes? Hope this makes sense thanks TOVIjunkie
at 7:14:23 PM
Thanks TOVIjunkie, and congratulations! 1) Yes, commissions are calculated in the p/l column, and 2) We cannot internally finance using open OPTION profits (but we can using open FUTURES profits). It's in the works, though. TOVI on!
ML asks:
How do you budget your account for trading once it’s gotten bigger and can do more? Do you budget a percentage of your account for each trade? It’s easier when you have a small account because you can only do one of everything
at 7:16:48 PM
Yes, all that money does make life more complicated doesn't it?! ML, please call one of my Course Counselors and ask him or her for a copy of my "How to Budget" newsletter article. That should put you on the right path.
Thanks!
B -Joe asks:
Ken - You asked about the TOVI "tool" and the contrarian mood. I use TOVI as a main guideline, but have been buying CALLS in late '05 in OJ, even though it is strong down with TOVI and I will bet I am right. Also, did the same with sugar and look where it is now. The charts are a MUST for me as, with sugar, zero is still zero and it isn't going below that. OJ CALLS are cheap now also. Having said that, I depend on TOVI to "hold me in the trade" as one of my biggest faults is getting out too soon when it goes against me temporarily. Thanks Ken (do I still have to take my shoes off to get to your office?) Bonta Joe
at 7:22:37 PM
Yes, B-Joe, it's still a no-shoes zone!!! Thanks for your great input; I know it'll help many others who are online this evening and who read the archives. Nice ride up in Sugar, huh!
dan asks:
Ken is it realistic for me to make big money using OPIP exclusively and with only $1,000?
at 7:23:23 PM
Yes, dan, but inplement T-O-V-I with that O-P-I-P!
Jonjayspop asks:
Ken, I ordered both TOVI and U.S. Charts online on the monthly billing basis (yahoo! Bless You!). Been a commodity fanatic since 1995 when I first ordered your course. My question: After three years of buying Eurodollar puts and watching them turn to dust, I have begun to think that they lose time value faster than they can gain intrinsic value. Are you making money in that market? And if so, HOW? Thanks for nine years of inspiration!!
at 7:28:19 PM
You're welcome, Jonjayspop! Don't quit now! Eurodollars are at all-time highs, so don't bail out now . . . . TOVI's Minimum Time Recommendation is just 10 months and its Long-Term Rankings are GREEN!
stewage asks:
I was filled on two put options in December bean oil at 10 points each about a month ago. They have since moved to 40 points. But the commissions were almost $100 per option. Those options will have to reach 53 points each before I can liquidate one option and trade the second option for free. It almost seems that $200 in commissions on two options is a good reason to bypass the broker and trade online. What do you think?
at 7:31:03 PM
That's strictly personal, stewage, but I can't see myself ever trading online without a broker to work on my behalf. $200 does seem like a lot of commission, however, so I think I'd shop brokers and/or brokerages for better rates (especially when you're buying multiple options). Hope this helps.
simon asks:
from Philadelphia: Tovi sounds like a factor / fact calculator. It helps to make the decisions that you would not see otherwise without using the horrible stupid news/opinions about a market. sound right Ken?
at 7:32:46 PM
You're half right, simon. But TOVI uses NO stupid news and/or opinions in its analysis. Just the facts, TOVI, just the facts . . . .
gizmo asks:
Ken, I already subscribe to US Charts & TOVI. Can I still get the new book?
at 7:35:37 PM
Watch your email for your logon information to download my new Manual . . . . (See? I'm always thinking of you!)
JamesFromFlorida asks:
JamesFromFlorida,
Hi Ken and Co, Please explain "silent stop". Thanks a million
at 7:37:03 PM
A "silent stop" (if you had read the Chat Archives, James . . . .) is an order that is NOT placed on the trading floor; rather, my broker knows the price at which I wish to have something done and when that price is hit, my broker carries out my instructions.
gladdy asks:
Hi Ken! I've been long sugar and the chart looks like it could start dropping now. But TOVI long term still says UP-GREEN. Should I jump ship?
at 7:37:27 PM
I wouldn't, gladdy: I trust TOVI!
Zapola asks:
Howdy Ken... Recently classmate in a college course gave us a short presentation on commodities. After class, I bugged them for info and they gushed about you. I found some of your materials and I devoured the TWMPMM manual, listened to the audio tapes, watched all of the regular videos, and am half way through the 6-tape Workshop videos. I realize my bargain hunting means that I'm not really a course member. Furthermore, most of these materials are dated '95 or before. I can tell that many of the principles are timeless, so I know I haven't wasted my money. However, I wonder where someone in my position should go with their education at this point?
at 7:38:38 PM
You're here, Zapola! And welcome aboard.
Go to www.kenroberts.com/tour and get started.
Clancy asks:
Hi Ken - from Clancy in Mexico. Thanks for TOVI, it's great.
Will there be any more workshops in the future?
at 7:39:00 PM
Absolutely, Clancy. Stay tuned . . . .
stewage asks:
When you say you "love OJ even more," I hope you mean that the charts point to an upcoming upward trend -- 'cause that is where my dollars are.
at 7:39:59 PM
No, actually I meant that I just like to drink it . . . . No, I agree: Orange Juice is at all-time lows and that means I'm lookin' long!
B -Joe asks:
Ken - Make that TOVI seminar on the WEST Coast!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love TOVI!!! Thanks Ken
at 7:40:46 PM
Yep, we've got that planned too (and Krista wants it to be at the Beverly Hills Hotel again . . . .). So, looks like I'll be seeing you in Beverly Hills!
Zapola asks:
Where do we look to see your travel schedule?
at 7:41:15 PM
That's currently unavailable, but stay tuned to the kenroberts.com website.
Stretch asks:
Hi Ken, Stretch here again, I started trading with TOVI last week and so far I am up over 10k. You said Captain Ken, I think King Ken sounds better!
at 7:42:16 PM
Yes, I like that King Ken . . . . Sounds good to me . . . . Or how about Tai Pan?
gladdy asks:
Hi Ken...I'm just amazed at how often TOVI is right on since I signed up a couple of months ago! Thanks a million (:
at 7:42:31 PM
Thank TOVI!
joe asks:
ken, you've often said you like to start a trade when TOVI's strength rating goes from moderate to strong. How about if it goes from moderate right to extreme, like some of the grains did recently?
at 7:43:29 PM
Paper trade it, joe, but "extreme" means volatile, and that (to me) is like trying to hop aboard a speeding bus (or bullet train!).
Drew in Atlanta asks:
Good evening Ken,
I'm really blown away with TOVI! In my previous trading of 1-2-3 Tops & Bottoms, I had to sit and wait for a market, that was already in a trend, to reverse that trend. Though I made some money this way, I believe I missed out on making much more money on the trending markets because I was sitting and waiting for the market to reverse the trend with a new top or bottom formation (often making false tops & bottoms). But with TOVI, I'm able to join a market in a trend and make money while it's in the trend. And with TOVI, I can incorporate some of my other techniques with ease (50% retracement calculations, etc). Each night, I log into TOVI and look for a specific opportunity using the futures strategy #2. I papertraded with TOVI for a while and recently did a live trade and pocketed $600 per contract. I am in my second live trade, the Sugar market, with TOVI and it's revolutionizing the way I trade! TOVI has helped me to reestablish my trading confidence and account b
at 7:46:11 PM
Your question got cut off, but we got the message, Drew! Thanks for sharing your plan and experience with everyone this evening.
hoss asks:
Your answer to New York Trader Paul remind me of another answer. There was a problem at Cape Canavaral with dust getting into the missiles before launch. They decided to cover each missile with a big condom. The Texas condom manufacturer got the order, reviewed it and told his people, "Make 'em, and stamp MEDIUM on each one of them.
at 7:47:15 PM
!
JT asks:
I have been paper trading the short term rankings and have had some losses, but as the TOVI guide indicates you should have an over all profit. I am currently up $5K with futures contracts in Cocoa, Lean Hogs, Cotton and Oats. I just follow the short term TOVI indicators.
at 7:47:41 PM
Thanks JT!
Cynthia Hollenbeck asks:
Hi Ken,
I was in Grant's Pass last week and stopped by your office. Justin (one of your course couselors) took me on a tour of your office. Everyone there was very nice. I was sorry I did not get the chance to meet you.
How about that coffee breaking the sideways channel?! Holy cow!
at 7:49:02 PM
That's how Coffee perks! (Sorry I missed you, but am glad you took us up on our perpetual invitation to Come On By!)
trwtrader asks:
Ken,
TOVI has been an excellent tool to enter a market. I am finding it difficult to get out of a market at the right times even using the recommended exit strategies. ie. have a Canadian $ put option that did not hit my exit strategy target. TOVI just recently turned this option red. I have 88 days left on this option. TOVI indicates that the Canadian $ is in an uptrend for the short term. I want to hold this option until it expires as I have seen options turn from red to black in TOVI before. Do you always exit your option position when TOVI turns it red or do you hang onto them until expiration to see if they turn around? What has your experience been? You have outdone yourself once again with the new web-site and charts online. Thanks.
at 7:52:10 PM
Thanks trwtrader! I usually REPLACE any option that TOVI turns RED. But I don't want to discourage you from trying a new approach. I like your plan in the Canadian $ and applaud you for sticking to your guns even though TOVI's Short-Term Rankings indicate otherwise. That's the way to trade!
TOVIjunkie asks:
Ken to Trips22, yes you can trade futures successfully using TOVI short term. On a recent paper trade(so sad it was not "real"money) I decided to try trading on the extreme trend(my nickname is "nitro") and i went long two contracts on Aug f.cattle on 5/18 fill of 102.15 w/trailing stop and exit at resistance at 110.. My exit was triggered on 6/7 with a profit of 7,200.00!! Hope I explained this clearly, gotta love this business!! TOVIjunkie
at 7:53:00 PM
Thanks! (Did you get that Trips22?)
tony tenn asks:
hey ken, on my first trade i lost $4300 in sept corn. i started out with $2500 2 contracts and 1 put, but the prices went up and grew a distance from my put, i got real excited and bought 5 contracts and then corn dropped like 21 cents in two days. would you recommend using stops since my funds are limited?
at 7:53:59 PM
I'd recommend looking into options, tony tenn. Give those TOVI Option Strategies a paper-trading try . . . . Thanks!
COLORADOJOE asks:
KEN JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW I HAVE 109 EURODOLLAR PUTS AND CLIMBING. MY GOAL IS TO HAVE 300 -500 PUTS SOON.ANYONE NOT EXCITED ABOUT THE MARKETSARE JUST PLAIN CRAZY.DON'T YOU HATE WEEKENDS. THANKS, SO FAR I HAVE GOT 5 PEOPLE TO BUY YOUR COURSE AND OPEN ACCOUNT'S.YOUR THE BEST.
at 7:54:41 PM
I may be the best, ColoradoJoe, but you DA MAN! Thanks!
petaluma scotty asks:
hey ken and crew, fyi, i made $14k on that madcow thing awhile back and it looks like we might be in for another shorting soon!!!!also, i made about $1800. shorting beans!! with the help of tovi, i just bought the most exspensive 150 cof.calls, ( for me anyway ) two for $918.each. oh, yah. one week later they doubled.
see ya.
at 7:55:26 PM
Thanks, petaluma scotty! (Where's the beef?)
Cuddles asks:
Ken how do you ever develop the patience to ride out the ups and downs after investing in puts or calls. Seems like the day after I make a purchase of either (on Paper) it immeditately goes the other way!!
at 7:58:24 PM
Instead of Cuddles, try Huggies to help you through those ups and downs! (Sorry, Cuddles, we couldn't resist . . . .).
Okay, seriously now: Puts and Calls (options) ARE the reason I'm able to endure the whipsaws of markets. Where it used to take a lot of CASH to endure such ups and downs, OPTIONS now allow traders with limited funds to endure the same fluctuations.
Many thanks!
frandollarmen asks:
Ken,
How are yea! I ignored tovi and held my possition in Sept. Yen and Dollar indexes. she suggested I should get out and I felt I could hang in there and ride the options for the long term ( like I used to). Well, my $800 set back became $4000 and I'm still sticking to my plan. In hind sight I think following tovi would have given me better positions at a later time. Ken why the changes in the Trade Tracker?
at 8:01:07 PM
Thanks frandollarmen. (Trade Tracker didn't change that I know of . . . .)
trwtrader asks:
Ken,
How can options in Eurodollars go out as far as the year 2o12?
at 8:01:32 PM
Because FUTURES contracts go out that far! Pretty neat, huh?
SC asks:
I have been with you since 2000 have taken TW 1, GAB and working with TOVI, love everything you do. Being a Mom of a 2 and 4 year old all a need is more time. Have you covered the flat top trangle, pennant formation if so where?? Thanks for the Rich Mans Secret. Can't wait to meet you!!!
at 8:02:27 PM
Thanks SC! Yes, you'll find those formations (and more) in The World's Greatest Business QuickStart Trading Guide at www.kenroberts.com.
esther asks:
Good evening! I just wanted to say thank you for the chats. It is so nice to know that I am not alone--or am I? Ken I don't think I could ever stop using your paper charts, they are like a security blanket for me. At least tell me that you will not stop printing them! Thank you for introducing me to the world of commodities in 1997, what a blast!
at 8:03:17 PM
Thanks Esther!
beaner asks:
Beaner from Chicago: Hi Ken!been trading for a couple years now (real money) paper traded for about a year before that.I am now in a position of being able to "macho trade" (been long a few contracts of July OJ for about 4 months now and getting ready to roll them over.I am about 9 G's in the hole with them, but am I worried? No way I trust my charts that much.I know I got in to early, hindsight is 20/20.but the last couple of months I have made up for it shorting beans, copper, and Bellies.Just want to say thanks for the introduction to this business and God bless!
P.S.I am in the process of planning a voyage out to Grants Pass one of these days,it just seems like a pilgrimage I have to take!

Fantastic beaner --- we'll be here with the coffee, cookies, and hot cocoa waiting for you! Thanks.
socrates asks:
Socrates: Hi, Ken! This is the first time I've participated with any chat here, though I've been monitoring for some time. I'm just now considering ordering the "TOVI" strategy. I'm hoping that options may be kinder to me than they've been in the past with this method. It seems as though you've certainly done your homework in putting together all of the complicated trading data, making it much easier and, hopefully, more accurate in creating a profitable investment. Thanks, Ken, for being there. You've definitely made my life financially more interesting.
at 8:05:44 PM
Thank YOU, socrates. Yes, take TOVI's FREE two-week trial!
TERRY asks:
Ken,if TOVI's strength rating goes from moderate to strong then to extreme,at that time do you tend to use your silent stops to protect your positions because of the volatility ?
at 8:07:27 PM
Not if I'm trading options, Terry. It could be, also, that that "Extreme" rating (since I'm already in the market) "is a good thing" (as Martha Stewart would say) . . . .
DM HydroPower asks:
Ken, looking at TOVI for OJ calls, and I found a march 05 with a 65 strike (price is currently at 64.50 for that contract) for $1035. Am I missing something, or is that a bargain worth concentrating on?!
at 8:09:29 PM
Yes, DM, that option is listed as the third top-rated OJ call by TOVI!
nickdogs asks:
Ken if your in a market that goes from moderate to extreme, example soymeal, is that a signal to get out?
at 8:10:29 PM
Not necessarily, nickdogs. It all depends upon YOUR strategy. Try paper trading TOVI's four listed strategies and see which you prefer. Then stick to THAT particular trading plan. Thanks!
Sue asks:
Hi everyone,
I'm so new that the tape is still sticky on my package. I don't understand a lot of the abbreviations I'm seeing, but will do better next month. What I do see is the incredible enthusiasm and positive energy from everyone involved in these courses. I'm excited about working towards my dream - being able to quit my job, retire, and support myself trading - and also to be involved with a group like this!
at 8:11:04 PM
You're in the right place, Sue! Thanks!
tony tenn asks:
